The Kings Dead formerly known as The Dean’s List just released their new album titled Jerusalem which features 17 solid tracks that will not disappoint. The Kings Dead, made up of members Sonny Shotz (AKA Aziz Francois), Mendoza and Mik Beats have evolved their music from rapping in the college party scene to making music that is taken more seriously.
With Jerusalem we hear lyrics from Aziz Francois that are stronger and more powerful than what we were used to hearing from Sonny Shotz back on The Drive-In and Generation X. The music and production by Mendoza and Mik Beats is wildly more complex and layered to the point where you gotta love watching all three guys make this transition. Jerusalem is easily the best album the guys have released to this date.
So it looks like the boys from Boston are no longer in the college rap genre, but you do not hear us complaining as they are gaining momentum towards hanging with the big named artists one day… much sooner than later. Hats off to The Kings Dead with their new album Jerusalem and how they have made the transition to a serious group without trapping themselves in a genre that would have trapped them in a niche genre.
